About Dave

Originally from Yorkshire and interested in nature and wildlife for as long as I can remember, I have been resident in the Scottish Highlands since the 1980’s. After finishing Art College in Leeds I moved to Shetland to work for the RSPB, and then to the Highlands where employment has included conservation and ecology contracts for a number of organisations such as the RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage (including 2 years with the Mountain Plateau Ecology Project) and the Sea Mammal Research Unit. Different projects have involved working on species such as Golden Eagle, Osprey, Capercaillie, Crossbills, Black-throated Diver, Slavonian Grebe and Dotterel as well as Common and Grey Seals, and have helped me to build an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scottish wildlife.

Travel has always been an important part of my life. For many years I have been a freelance birdwatching and wildlife guide, in the Scottish Highlands and Islands as well as guiding overseas trips to over 30 countries on 6 Continents, from the high Arctic to the equator to Antarctica. Based just a couple of miles from Loch Garten in Speyside I now specialise in tailormade guiding for birdwatchers, wildlife watchers and photographers at home and abroad (having organised and led itineraries to Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America).
